The Philokalia is a collection of text written between the fourth and fifteenth centruies by spiritual masters of the Orhodox Christian tradition. First pulbished in Greek in 1782, translated into Slavonic and later into Russina, The Philokalia has exercised an influence far greater than that of any book other than the Bible in the recent history of the Orthodox Church.Most of the quotations appearing at this site were drawn from Volume one, which covers the period from the fourth to the eighth century and is thus the common heritage of Orthodox and Catholics. Some additional quotations have been drawn from Volume two.
